The displayed image is a [time-lapse composite] of more than 70 photos from Ikaria island, Greece. Ikaria island is world known for the people calmness and longevity, serene landscapes and the rough inland terrain, dominated by free gazing animals, which led referring to the place as ‘The Planet of the Goats’. The sequence of lightning images was taken at the same night, after a total lunar eclipse at June 15, 2011. The whole purpose was to capture the eclipse.
The weather forecast was disappointing, and the excursion cancellation seemed like the only choice. I was only convinced to go, after my wife Tery, told me that ‘something good will happen’. Something good happened indeed, as I returned with my best photos ever, a lunar eclipse combined with a couple of lightnings and the most fearsome lightning display I have ever seen in my life. The National Geographic publication was a childhood dream came true and the opportunity to tell the story, because after all, everything is about telling stories.
