Marble Caves, Patagonia, 2017

This image is from the marble caves hidden deep within Patagonia. I was in Patagonia with my dad, and we were on a mission to see things off the beaten path. Our sense of adventure took us driving for 7 hours, most of which was down an unmarked dirt road, to the lake where these caves were formed in the marble by melted glacier water.

We chartered a boat to take us out and photographed the image when the light was perfect. It was truly unexpected as we didn’t even know about this magical place when we came to Patagonia, but now it’s unforgettable and will always hold a special place in our hearts.

About the Photographer

Clane Gessel

Clane’s passion for photography began right out of high school. He was flat broke and living out of his car but refused to let obstacles stand in the way of his passion.

Within a year, his work had been featured nationwide and he got a job working at The Seattle Times. He attended the University of Washington, and after graduation he stepped out of the Times’ shadow and started photographing destination weddings.

Ten years later, the same passion continues to drive him, and in 2017 he was named top 5 wedding photographers in the country.

His landscape work continues to hold a place in his heart, with new images appearing on his website every few months.
