The Departure, Japan, 2013

I went to the Omiya train station in Saitama, Japan to capture the types of emotions–joy, hope, sorrow–that are visible on travelers’ faces. As one particularly popular train painted with stripes began to leave the station, I caught a quiet moment of a conductor at work.

I feel that the train is not only a means of travel but also a journey to the destination.
