Hiro Kurashina is a National Geographic award winning photographer (2018 National Geographic Travel Photographer of the Year – First Place in the Cities Category) and an internationally recognized scholar. His photographs have been published in National Geographic Magazine, a National Geographic Book (Stunning Photographs), Leica Fotographie International and others. He has traveled extensively and conducted academic research in many parts of the world, including sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East, South East Asia, East Asia, Oceania and Japan. His scholarly publications have appeared in such journals as the British scientific journal Nature. He holds a doctorate degree in Anthropology from the University of California at Berkeley. He is passionate about photo-story telling and digital imaging with an emphasis on world cultures.
